Vittorio Sgarbi’s video testimonial
Vittorio Sgarbi is an Italian art critic, essayist, politician, tv celebrity, and opinionist. He has been several times a member of the parliament as well as of different city administrations.
It seems to me a beautiful invention that Ruvo of Puglia, along with the city’s cathedral and the Jatta’s collection (referring to Palazzo Jatta National Archaeological museum’s collection), also has the Mokambo artisan Gelateria, which embodies a cultural-gastronomic monument in itself.
You can’t refuse to come to Ruvo of Puglia, Ruvo was already a must-see, but now… If somebody would go to Ruvo and not stop by Mokambo, he would be an idiot!Vittorio Sgarbi
Piero Armenti’s video testimonial
Italian journalist, blogger and entrepreneur. He owns the number-one Italian travelling agency based in Times Square, in New York City.
For those who visit Bari or the surrounding province, I believe that a stop-over here (at Mokambo) is something worth taking as a memorable memory when leaving. My greatest compliments to you guys, for the passion and the taste that are in this place. Bye guys!

Francesco Martucci video testimonial
“Pioneer of the contemporary pizza”, chef and tv celebrity. He is the owner of “I Masanielli” pizzeria and was nominated as the best pizza chef worldwide in 2019, 2020 and 2021 according to 50 Top Pizza online guide.
I have tasted a few things in this extraordinary place, which are really away from the usual gastro pseudo-connoisseur routes and are out of any concept of modern gelato parlours.
It was an extraordinary and truly remarkable experience!
Mokambo is undoubtedly worth the trip!Francesco Martucci

A few reviews we received on TripAdvisor

I travelled to Ruvo solely to taste Mokmabo’s legendary gelato, based on a friend's recommendation. As soon as I entered the place, I immediately realised that it was not like any other; it isn't a regular gelato parlour. It is pretty small but cosy, it’s a family-run business, which allows us, contemporary people, to taste a gelato of yesteryear. I have never eaten anything similar to it. It was an authentic tasting experience, driven by the Mokambo’s staff, who looked after us and treated their customers with their best interests in mind. They explained their gelato and recommended to us what to pick. As soon as I have the opportunity again, I will definitely go back to Mokambo. It was excellent.

We arrived in Ruvo for our friends wedding, our phones had both died and we hadn’t been organised enough to bring a map. Searching for our Airbnb became useless after an hour with the locals not speaking very much English, we found Mokambo and the woman who worked there couldn’t have been more helpful. Plugged our phones into our charger, loaded us up with ice cream, called our Airbnb host for us and didn’t let us pay until she knew we were sorted. The ice cream was ridiculously good and we returned every day of our short stay. Wishing we were still there. They fill the cone with cream first, then whatever ice cream flavours you choose and then too again with cream and dunk in pistachios and almond flakes. Yum. Go! And say hi to the beautiful woman who reminded us of the movie 'Chocolate'

I have had the chance to visit this excellent gelato parlour. As soon as I entered, it seemed like I was in the movie Chocolat. The place is flawless and super cosy. The service is meticulous. Giuliana’s kindness and congeniality are unique. Mr Franco is by far the best gelato master. I have not eaten such delicious gelato since my childhood. I work in the hospitality industry myself, and when I tasted the gelato flavours, my palate was overwhelmed by the refined tastes. It is noticeable at the first impact the excellence and high quality of the niche products they use to create their gelato. It is easy to spot that making their gelato is the exact method implemented in the past by ancient gelato makers. I will come back very soon and with absolute pleasure. I definetely recommend it! Compliments for your excellent work!

We have tried Mokambo’s Gelato or what my grandparents have defined as “Gelato of yesteryear”. It is useless to say that the natural products they use are super fresh, and my palate could tell it! I have tried different flavours, and they were all excellent, particularly one that pleasantly impressed me is the Pure Chocolate flavour! I strongly recommend all chocolate lovers to try it, and you will be left in awe! Finally, the last detail is their whipped cream cloud: soft and aromatic, almost impalpable! It is an unforgettable gelato!!

Nowadays, everyone misuses the term “Artisan”, even though the making process and the finished products certainly aren’t artisanally made. In this gelato parlour, their gelato is defined as yesteryear. It is exactly made the same as it used to be made in 1960, which was when they first opened, they do not use artificial powders, and it is free of preservatives. Their gelato always tastes fresh and genuine. This gelato parlour is a small pearl in the heart of Ruvo’s city. They propose 8 flavours, and I recommend you to try all of them, as they are all exceptional. I guarantee you I have tested them all! It is one of the best gelatos I have ever tried! If you happen to be in this part of the country, you can’t avoid visiting Giuliana; she will know how to spoil you and suggest what to pick; I will definitely come back!

I never liked gelato until I visited Mokambo. I understand that there is a big difference between authentic gelato and what you usually buy in other ice cream shops. Industrial products have altered healthy eating, therefore finding a genuine artisan gelato which is nice, is really rare, but this experience was so gratifying for my taste buds. When you try “Mokambo’s gelato” you can tell the difference with other ice creams, there’s no comparison! I can’t eat any other ice cream than Mokambo’s!! They offer very high-quality products, and thanks to the staff’s competence and friendliness, they enable their guests to understand how hard it is to make such an excellent gelato so that you can truly appreciate the recipes for their flavours! Keep rocking, guys!

As soon as I entered Mokambo gelateria, I thought that I was travelling back in the past. The store's interior design is elegant and embodies the ambience of the sensory experience from yesteryear… all my 5 senses have been immediately overwhelmed. We visited their open-plan laboratory, which allows you to view how they make authentic gelato. Our experience then centred on flavours tasting. My attention focused on the Bronte pistachio and the Torroncino…they were both fantastic and indefinable! I will come back here every time I have the chance!!

Absolutely a must-try! their gelato has got an unimaginable taste! It is very light. As soon as you taste it, you will realise that it is not rich in sugar and artificial flavours like what regular ice cream shops sell. Additionally, their flavours are garnished with crumbles of pistachio, hazelnut and torrone, depending on the flavours you pick! I have never seen anything like this anywhere else. The place reminds you of the old gelato parlours from the past. If you love authentic Italian food, you must come to Mokambo!

It is a gelato parlour that is hard to be found, with genuine artisan production methods and unique taste. It is absolutely unmissable. Roberto.

To summarise in a few lines, you won't find it anywhere else the gelato that you will have here! I truly recommend it!

Non è solo una gelateria. Their gelato is impressive, made with traditional methods and genuine products. Even more remarkable is the place and the people working here: Giuliana works with passion and dedication. Defining this place as a gelato parlour is reductive….this place is so much more!!

I have had the pleasure and the luck to taste Mokambo’s exceptional flavours and listen to the place’s history, which Vincenzo and Giuliana wisely narrated in detail. None among us had ever tried such a genuine gelato, with a remarkable artisan taste. It will be really difficult going back to work in the UK, knowing that I won’t be able to enjoy Mokambo’s gelato till my next visit to Italy. See you real soon!

If you are a lover of old-fashioned gelato, you need to visit Mokambo Artisan Gelateria in Ruvo di Puglia. This place blends tradition and innovation when researching the taste’s purity. I have reserved in August their exceptional “King's Sceptre” made with the most refined spice globally: Iranian saffron. The taste was unique and something incomparable. I can’t describe it. I never tried anything similar to it! It was pure madness! I am a regular customer of Mokambo’ Gelateria, and when anybody mentions gelato, I begin thinking only about Mokambo ❤️

Here I tried what I define a “heavenly” dessert. Giuliana has made gelato an art, backed up by her solid experience which her family passed on to her. You can tell they only use high quality natural products to make their gelato just by tasting it, you can tell by tasting that every single pistachio, every cocoa bean, every nut has been stone-grounded. Here they don’t use any semi-finished industrial products and if your taste buds work well, you will confirm it! You cannot visit Ruvo of Puglia and its surrounding without visiting Giuliana first!

I totally recommend it, thanks a lot guys for gifting us with your work of art!

Unique experience which never gets old. This is the only authentic and genuine gelato which brings me back in time to when I was a kid. Mokambo is a must-visit for those who come to Ruvo of Puglia. Unique!!!
